What you can get

When you accept a position as a country teacher, you may be eligible for:

  • fortnightly country incentive zone allowance payments in addition to your normal salary
  • a one-off incidentals payment upon accepting your first permanent teaching position
  • locality allowances
  • compensation for removal and relocation expenses
  • government employee housing concessions
  • travel and accommodation to access medical and dental treatment
  • study leave and travel leave (after a minimum service period at Aboriginal or Anangu schools)
  • guaranteed return to a metropolitan site after a minimum service period
  • Higher Education Loan Program (HELP) assistance if teaching in a ‘very remote’ area.

Special requirements

Successful applicants must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 to enter the APY Lands, as per the local Aboriginal Community Councils (Yalata Anangu Aboriginal Corporation, Oak Valley – Maralinga Tjarutja Council and APY – Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Executive Board).

To ensure employer compliance of duty of care responsibilities, given the unique environment of the APY Lands, a wellness check will be conducted for these positions and before any offer of employment.
